Me: Hey, Rob, see these cool-looking flip flops?
Rob: I don't want to wear cool-looking flip flops.
Me: Oh, okay.
(Rob pointing down to his cool penny loafers he's wearing with shorts and a tee shirt)
Rob: When I was in boarding school, this is what I wore all the time.
Me: You're not in boarding school any more.
Rob: Harumph!

My husbandly refuses to wear flip flops too. He does wear those Nike or Adidas sport sandals though- try those...hee hee
Mine will only wear flip flops if his feet are going to be in the Gulf of Mexico. Why he insists on ruining perfectly good flipflops in that nasty water, I dont know! ;)
Otherwise, he's all about his Nikes.
I convinced Andy to buys some lounge shoes a few years ago, but he only wears them like twice a year. It's hard to break in new habits, I guess.
